Top 3 Interval Training Methods for Fast Fat Loss

I recently came across this great Infographic that summarizes 3 popular and effective forms of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Because HIIT is something I frequently discuss in my blog posts and articles, and I also often recommend it to my clients, I have shared this Infographic below as a quick reference for these different interval training workouts. Try them out for some variety… I’ve also included some links below it for more information. Review the Interval Training InfoGraphic HERE: […]

I Want Fitness 4 Christmas

Santa’s job isn’t easy. He spends an entire year preparing to deliver BILLIONS of presents all over the planet… all in one night.  This requires him to run a full time toy factory, manage a staff of dozens of elves, and keep up a reindeer farm. Plus he has to answer millions of personal letters from his fans, do thousands of “mall gigs”, collect money for charities, and appear on hundreds of commercials, TV shows, and movies every year.  Sometimes it seems like he has to be in two or more places at the same time. Can you imagine the stress he must be under? Talk about cortisol production! And he manages this on a diet of almost exclusively cookies, milk, and candy. […]

Quick Fat-Blasting Exercise “Complex” Workouts

An exercise “complex” routine is basically a series of exercises performed in sequence using a single barbell or set of dumbbells. You will perform the entire series of exercises back to back with minimal (if any) rest using the same bar or dumbbells. But don’t mistake complex training as being the same thing as circuit training… with a complex routine you are using several compound exercises that flow together smoothly transitioning from one to the next without rest; this delivers a cardiovascular conditioning effect as well as metabolic conditioning (blasting your fat stores!). […]

5 Big Fat Loss Tips from Big Ben Pakulski

I recently attended a seminar lead by professional bodybuilder, trainer, and educator, big Ben Pakulski (BPak). In his presentation, Advanced Techniques for Hypertrophy and Fat Loss, Ben shared some important tips for gaining muscle and shedding fat. In this post I wanted to share with you his 5 Powerful Fat Loss Tips. Fat Loss Tip #1: Carbohydrates are NOT the body’s preferred energy source! Although carbs are burned faster than fat, they are not the most efficient or healthiest energy source. Carbs have only 4 kcal per gram, whereas fat has 9 kcal per gram… more than twice the available energy. Fat is also a slower burning fuel source and will provide longer lasting energy. Fat is an essential nutrient, as is protein (Note: Essential Fatty Acids in fat; Essential Amino Acids in protein; carbohydrates are non-essential), and even most saturated fats and cholesterol are healthy and necessary, EXCEPT if [...]

High Intensity Interval Training for 6 Pack Abs

In my previous post in my Pursuit of 6 Pack Abs (which was the first one of this series) I described several key nutritional strategies for blasting belly fat and revealing those abs. This time we are going to look at a key training strategy for getting leaner while keeping your hard earned muscle… it’s called High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). HIIT involves alternating between phases of higher and lower intensity cardio-type exercise. This type of training has several distinct benefits over traditional LISS (low intensity steady state) cardio, as discussed in my previous blog post “Is Cardio Really That Effective for Weight Loss”. A few of these benefits include: […]

Is Cardio Really That Effective for Weight Loss?

Hello again! Spring is finally here (although you wouldn’t know from the weather we’ve been having), and everyone is looking to get leaner for the warm weather. This means it’s time to start doing more cardio for weight loss and cutting your calories way back, right? Not quite. I’d like to challenge the common belief that doing a lot of cardiovascular exercise is the best way to improve your overall fitness and to reduce body fat. But first I want to update you on how my training has been going for the Sporting Life 10K Run … which is TOMORROW! I had planned on posting more updates on my training during the week, but it’s been busy… so, better late than never. (See my previous post for more details) […]
